My goal as an artist is to express, with paint, my awe at the beauty and complexity of the world we inhabit. I respect the land that supports us, and I am deeply aware that we are a part of it. I am moved by architecture within the landscape, the house by the sea...the people that were there before us, those that will be there after us.
 

I paint both in the studio, and plein air, and work in both oils and acrylics.

 

Art was always a central theme in my life. It was not until after my children were grown, however, that I took up a formal study of painting.
 

During the six years I studied art at Kent State University, I was mentored by Dr. Douglas Unger. Dr. Unger honed his artistic training with Henry Hensche, of the Provincetown Art School. Hensche was a protégé of Charles Hawthorne, who was mentored by William Merrit Chase. Each of these artists passed along a love of color, with strong classical training, a respect for the art that preceded them, along with the excitement of exploring new avenues of artistic expression.
 

Dr. Unger taught us to respect the history of artistic achievements: our artistic lineage, and the desire to learn our own voice in the long process. "You have to paint miles of canvas before you can call yourself an Artist." My miles of canvas have been an exciting venture, and I look forward to many more.
